Aussie Curves - night out

The last few weeks of school mean lots of night outs; speech night, senior formal, spectacular, Christmas carols.  Most of my photos have turned out too dark :(

I'm on the left.  My dress, not that you can see it, is from Asos.

Last night was our staff Christmas party.

It was meant to be a costume party but only my husband and I really wore costumes, although there were a few Christmassy outfits.

We don't mind being the only ones dressed up though because our costumes rocked...

Yeah check that out!

I got the dress and isis wings from eBay.  My sandals are from The Iconic.

Aussie Curves - Fears Exposed

Unshaven legs.

I hate shaving my legs and try and do it only once a week plus special occasions.

If I do it any more my legs break out, I've tried using a new razor in each leg and waxing but blahhh.  Now I use an electric razor.  TMI?  It's going to get worse.

So I shave at the beginning of the week and of course by Friday I've got myself a spiky little forest.  Which means I wear long pants to cover my legs, even if it is near 40 degrees.

I'm paranoid that someone will say something about my hairy legs - flash backs to high school I guess.

So anyway, here I am wearing a skirt on Friday with my legs all hairy.

Aussie Curves - Tee

T-shirts are easy.   No ironing, easy to dress up and down, cool and comfortable.

During the Christmas holidays I read that another state had banned teachers from wearing t-shirts to work.  If our state did that I would just die - from heat exposure.

Aussie Curves - Everyday Style

I didn't capture everyday, but I got a few photos taken.  Some more dodgy than others.

What is my everyday style?
  • colour
  • quirky accessories
  • comfort
Alliteration...

I have no idea.

Congratulations you made it to the end!

Aussie Curves - denim

I wear denim jeans to work a lot, so I really didn't stretch myself far this week.

I did however rock a huge ass messy bun in my hair.

Jeans - Crossroads
Top - Big W
Shoes - Fiebiger
Brooch - Erstwilder

Stars and spots - such a rebel

Bun and cat pin - felt like a dainty ballerina all day.

Bonus - although chambray is not denim, I'm including it anyway since it was during this week.

MORE DOTS!

This is what I wore for class photos this year.  I hate class photos with every single strand of fibre in my body, and yet I've only ever missed one.

Blurry face, more like soft focus.

Aussie Curves - Red

I woke up this morning and released I hadn't worn red all week.  I couldn't find a red top that I know I have. I didn't want to wear a red dress.  I went with jewellery instead.

Of course Erstwilder parrots would be perfect.

Sorry about my dodgy photos , I'm so lazy!  Haven't even brushed my hair.

Aussie Curves - multicultural

Last week we celebrated NAIDOC day at out school.  It's a huge week for us full of activities and teaching moments.  We ate kangaroo tail and witchetty grubs along side roast for our big dinner.

I and friend were in charge of getting everyone a t-shirt that fit them and then they screen printed on it.

For the primary students we used a design that I had pre-cut - I was so sick of that by the end of the week.

The high schoolers designed their own and prepared the screen, before printing.

Some of my students made me this one. The symbol represents two waterholes connected by running water, the foot prints show that the person crossed it.

The scarf was one that I bought from Thailand. We ate a lot of curry and some awesome dishes but we didn't get to eat anything exotic. I really wish we had, because I got Thailand tummy anyway - at least I could have said it was eating something gross.  What's the grossest/exotic thing you have eaten?

I must remember to wear red next week!

Aussie Curves - Time Saver

Hazzah! It's been so long since I did an Aussie Curve that I decided that I MUST participate!

Like lots of places in QLD - it suddenly got cold here - we went from high 20s into 30s and then we went down to 7-10.  I'm excited because I love cooler weather!

Because it has been colder in the mornings, it has taken me longer to get out of bed, and so I'm looking for time savers.  I'm also doing Me Made May - so I have to wear something I made or altered 5 days every week.

Pants - City Chic
T-shirt - me made
Cardi - Target
Sandles - The Iconic
Scarf - from Thailand

These pants are becoming my favs.  I should have bought 2 pairs.  They don't need ironing and are really comfy.

By the end of the day I had taken off the cardi and the scarf because it got hot again.  I put them back on for the photos...

So glad to be back - I'll have to check out next week's theme.

Aussie Curves - Activewear

Work out wear!!! I have heaps of activewear - far too many to wear during the week but even then I still have trouble finding them when I need them.

Top - Lane Bryant
Bottom - made by me
Shoes - Mizuno

I made a heap of bottoms a while ago. Some of them are made from water wicking fabric but most are thick Lycra.

I actually need new shoes - I've had these for two years now and the padding is now too thin.

I think that the best sports bra for someone with larger cups is the Shock Absorber.  It still doesn't go up to my cup so I used a larger back size but they still keep the puppies in place for most work outs.  If I really need to jump a lot then I wear two.

They come in different colours and black.  I bought my first couple from Australian online shops but now go on eBay, getting them from overseas is cheaper and seems to take just as long!

The other sports bra that I use is the Elomi Energise bras, but the underwires are placed further back so they can be uncomfortable. I actually use this bra most days for everyday wear.

I hope this post has been helpful!

Aussie Curves - Breaking the Rules

Whenever I read this week's theme I got this song stuck in my head.  I'm not the only one right? Just to share that experience here is a YouTube vid of it:

I'm actually not following two of my own guidelines today.

- Tucked in
- Pleats on the belly

The tucked in guideline is one that I like to flirt with - I can sometimes pull off with a skinny t or a leotard.  I have a short torso and large bust which makes it look ridiculous with anything else.

I could pull my waist band further down my body to elongate my torso, but I have heart/high/apple hips which means that my pants would fall down easily if I do.

A heart hip means that my high hip sticks out quickly and then comes back in again  before jutting out again for my thigh.  I used to be so conscious of it - when I was a teen I thought I was deformed. You can see these pictures if you still have no idea what I'm talking about.

And here is a sewing video as well

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGiYkkqBv0w

For one of my assignments at uni I made my own skirt pattern based upon my measurements and when I showed my sewing lecturer she made some snide comment about the fact that I had drawn my hip line wrong, but it was based on my measurements and fitted perfectly.

Because my heart hip is so pronounced it does make shopping for knickers a pain in the ass (literally) because you have to go all granny or skimpy string for your knickers to stay up and not bunch together into the dip. Too much info?

The other one is the no pleats on the belly.  I generally try not to have much going on over my tummy.  I even avoid pants/jeans with a fly wherever possible. I've got a round belly (don't we all?) so instead of flowing over the curve, pleats and zips kind of stick out.  I hate zips that make me look like I have a hard on - they are the worst.

Anyway - I've been dieing to buy some hammer pants - because they would work with a tucked in top and the fabric would be soft enough to drape.  I bought two while I was at the DFO City Chic in Brisbane on my way home from Thailand - I think were were $15 each.

Aussie Curves - Cocktail

What I wore on Christmas:

Silky green skirt from Target
Black peplum top - peplum tucked in - from Rockmans
Silver belt from St Vinnies
Cat bag from Romwe
No shoes
Blue nail polish on toes,
 green on fingers

We didn't have cocktails but I did have some moscato!

And yes that is a wall of One Direction in the background,,, my faux daughter is a 'bit' of a fan.  I bought her a 1D bed set so I was checking out how it looked in her bedroom.

Aussie Curves - Resort

In a few weeks I will actually be at a resort,,, in Thailand.  I'm so excited because it will be my first time overseas.  However, although we are staying at a 'resort' it is in rural Kanchanaburi. We've street viewed the place and it is surrounded by farms :)

Plus, every second day I've booked us on an adventure - so we won't just be lazying by the pool all the time wearing luxurious resort wear.  Seeing as we will be going to rural villiages and temples and all that tourist stuff, I've been reading that we should be conservative with our clothing.

Then I started thinking about what would a Thai actually wear? So I went fashion blog hunting and found this one - Thai Trend Spotting.

http://thaitrendspotting.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/1-001-w3-september-jatujak-detail.jpg

Slouch pants (pattern) with a white top and sandals - camera optional.

Sewing challenge - make a pair of slouch pants and a white top because I still don't have a white t-shirt.

http://thaitrendspotting.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/6-006-w1-march-asoke-sukumit.jpg

Navy floral skirt (elastic waist band) with grey top and jelly type sandals.

Sewing challenge - make a tube skirt using the left over navy floral fabirc and a gray top.

http://thaitrendspotting.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/6-008-w3-dec-asoke.jpg

Cheetah top and tan leggings.

Sewing challenge - cheetah top and a neutral leggings ( I don't do tan).

Then while I was searching pinterest for slouch pants, I came upon these from Piper Gore:

http://www.shopvault.com/pipergore/product/W201CH/dylan-chambray-pant

Sewing challenge - chambray slouch pants.

Verdict

I wore this today - it was comfortable.  So glad I put pockets into the skirt.  The shirt was made with the Kirstyn kimono tee pattern.

Chambray pants -put pockets in everything actually!  These look like PJ bottoms though... actually both pants use the pattern I made from an old pair of PJs so they really are comfy.

White top - same Kirstyn kimono pattern.

Patterned slouch pants with the leopard pattern - decided I needed pants more then the top.

So I like these but,,, the brown spots ended up being in the worst places.  So I'm not sure if I can wear them without being conscious of those big brown patches!  I can break the back spot with pockets but I'm not too sure about the front!

So anyway - the skirt and the tee shirts are coming with me to Thailand - not sure about the pants.
