Camp

I have a love hate relationship with school camp.  There is so much work leading up to it - planning for my classes while I am away - paperwork and letters - phone calls etc

And then when you are on camp it's 24hrs of care.  When you are having a well deserved hot shower and someone else's kids is yelling through the door for permission to whatever it is they want you really start to question why.  Also in the middle of the night you deal with a sleep walker.  Also when you are waiting in a dark hallway to make sure everyone has gone to sleep. Also when home sickness sets in...

But there are good things.  Like teaching kids that they can prepare a meal. Or how to wash up - using hot soapy water, who would have thought - dishwashers have a lot to answer for.  Seeing kids do something they were scared of, like climb and then jump off a 10m pole.

I'm glad it's over for another year and I'm back at comfortable home, but I am proud of myself again this year.  I climbed up a huge pole and then rode the flying fox back down. My muscles are still complaining but that's okay.

I don't have a lot if photos on then phone that doesn't include kids' faces so these will have to do.

The stupid stairs we climbed up and down a couple of times a day.

The bark that you land in which gives you  splinters.

The 5:30am start as we drove away from home to arrive 7 or so hours later at camp.

At least I got to go shopping on the last day!

Plans - Xmas holidays edition

This is the official first day of my holidays.

 Work plan:

I went into work though at 10am and worked until 3pm without lunch - just munching on whatever I had. My aim was to get my senior English unit planning done, which I did!!!

This term I'm going to trial a paperless unit, which means everything has to be digital and accessible for my students on their tablets. I'm excited because I've always liked the idea, but because we didn't have student laptop or tablets we had to book into the computer room, blah! So anyway, it's all done - 'handouts', 'worksheets', assessment tasks, lesson plans ready to go.

I would like to get a head start on the next unit for this group of kids so I won't have to worry about them until half way through the year, but I do have to work on my other classes before that. So anyway, my first week of the holidays will involve me going into work and planning for the rest of my classes.

House plan:

Before I head off to work I want to get a bit of house work done.
 - downstairs declutter
 - Christmas decorations
- my office desk
- dining table declutter
- wardrobe sort
- jewellery draws
- pantry sort
- sewing room - OMG what a mess!

In the afternoons I want to get some cleaning done.
 - washing clothes
- folding clothes
- clean down all doors
- air-cons
- the usual stuff really

Sewing plan:

I want nice easy sewing this holidays, mostly.

- Scout woven tee from Grainline
- Suzy pant from Tessuti Fabrics
- Mandy boat tee from Tessuti Fabrics
- Tania culottes from Megan Neilson
- green skirt from my own pattern
- skinny tee from my own pattern
- maybe the Washi dress by Made by Rae

Wearing Colour - Blue

As I walked to my first class of the day a student exclaimed, 'Miss, you're wearing my colour! Blue!'
I'm glad she verified which colour because although it's blue day - I am wearing a fair bit of yellow and green too.

Green Cardigan - Rockmans
Blue top - Reebok
Yellow Camisole - Target
Jeans - Autograph
Shoes - Rubi
Watch - Big W

This was a shot from the first time I wore this top - I've included it just to show the band and the print.  This top gets so many compliments.

Also tried on someone else's new glasses - I really like this shape.  Then I realised that they were Ray Bands, and I was like - yep, that's why.  I can't wait to get some new frames.

Oh yeah, that's the wall behind my desk at work.  See those white baskets? I have one for each subject that I teach. Planning and everything else that I need to teach that class for the week goes in there, so all I have to do it grab the correct basket each lesson.

Can you see that thing on the top shelf of the book case? That's my birthday crown.  Anyone in my form class that has a birthday during the school week has to wear it for the day.

Rats!

A student brought in his pet rats today.
