Hair Journey

As the end of the year approaches I really wanted to make a time line of my hair this year... But I'm missing some of the photos from the start of the year from my phone!

So I'm making do with what I have.

At the start of the year I ombred my hair tips using bleach.  It worked well, but my aim was to dip dye it.  I went with purple - la riche voilet. The colour was dark and blended in too well with my all over colour.  I repeated the ombré half way through the year and I also tried blue and pink from Schwarzkopf LIVE Colour Ultra Brights.  They didn't last very long but the pink did look great.

I decided during the September holidays and just go the whole hog and really get the colour I wanted.  I went from this to this...

I felt like a spy changing the colour of my hair to escape the enemies. 

Then this happened.

So this is Manic Panic Ultra Violet mostly. Purple haze as used in the bottom half - never again.

Pretty soon the Purple Haze turned a funny colour:

While the voilet turned a silvery grey purple which I loved.

So I used a pot of the violet and put though a heap of foils.

For the first week of my Christmas holidays I stripped my hair using anti-dandruff shampoo until it looked like this:

Then I booked in and bleached again.

See how the purple turned into green-blue?  That's a hint at what was to come.

BOOM!

Check that colour out!  I was hoping for a darker teal and ended up with bright

Cyan - it's mostly Manic Panic Atomic Turquoise.

So there we have it - my new awesome hair colour.  I've washed it twice now and the colour runs like heck but the hair doesn't look as though it has changed.

Moons

Listening to my husband reading Elizabeth Moon aloud while I wear my galaxy leggings, obsessing over my purple hair.  I put in heaps of purple foils today.

Hair - part 5

Nearly two weeks later and 4 washes (not including the hairdressers') my colour has pretty quickly faded.  One of the purples has gone a disappointing browny pink and the other is grayish.  I like the grayish which is the ultra violet from Manic Panic.

I was going to add more of it this weekend but I think I'll wait until next weekend instead.

This is my hair in the sun - of course a wind had to pick up just that second.  You can see that the ends have that different colour.

Just under a cm of regrowth, I love to see  how much my hair grows once I've died it.

Hair - part 4

I have purple hair.  And I don't mean burgundy, I mean real purple!!!

I was so scared going into the hairdressers to get it done.  I had my hair bleached and then had the colour on top.  The bleaching part was what I was worred about and decided I couldn't do it by myself because I figured I would stuff it up and fry my hair.

I was surprised how well my hair took it - so was the hairdressers.  I say hairdressers because for most of the morning I had two people, the main lady and possibly an apprentice.

Then on went the colour.  The ends had a darker dye on it after this first coat, my ombré made it 'wishy washy' as the hairdresser said.

So I went from this:

Holy crapola!

I love how it looks straightened!   

But this is how it looks when I let it dry naturally.

The colour changes all the time according to the light - sometimes it looks fluro.

Hair - part 3

I really like the idea of wigs but I've never been confident enough to buy one let alone wear one.

When I was growing up there was a lady, a friend's mother, that would occasionally wear a wig out and about - she was way too dramatic for our small country town.

Anyway...

There are a few online shops that sell great wigs such as Rockstar wigs.  But I didn't want to spend too much money on an experiment.

So I went on eBay.  I actually found a few wigs that look the same as on the more expensive sites.

I bought my wigs through the eBay shop Insteaddo.  I've linked the photos to the eBay auction.

Pink wig:

Too fake but fun!  I actually think that this colour suits my skin.  The fringe needs neatening.

As you can see the wig isn't as long the top seller's photo, but is the same as the middle one.

This one is actually passable as my real hair. The fringe is long enough to flick to one side.

The length is right, the curles are okay too.  But I really want to give the ends a brush.

This is the one I wanted to wear to Lady Gaga.  The fringe really needs to be trimmed.

This one is different from both the pics as far as I am concerned.  The length is in between and it doesn't seem as fluffy.  It is fluffy but not FLUFFY.  The top layer of the wig isn't crimped.  I'm not unhappy with it though.

Please note that I AM wearing a singlet in that last photograph!

So what have I decided? Well, they could be quite addictive actually. I haven't yet worn them anywhere.

They don't feel like real hair - the fringes are irritating at the wrong length but overall they weren't uncomfortable for the little while I wore them.

Hair - part 2

After putting off dying my hair, except for bleaching the tips, for about 6 months, I finally decided to do it.

I had some funny ideas, like about just putting through a few foils of colour so that I would eventually have mostly natural coloured hair.  But seriously what was I thinking?

It's not that I am worried about my grey hairs, it's just that my natural hair colour just felt boring!

What I would really love is to prebleach my hair and go wild with colour, but I'm really nervous about ruining my hair... Even though I know that it's just hair and will grow back!

Anyway - that's an issue for another post that I'm excited about... later.

It's now too dark to take a good photo, so this will have to do, I had to edit this by the way.

I use Napro Palette Rosewood Voilet which is as close to purple that I can get easily out here. I had found a colour that was more purple online, but once I used them I forgot to record which brand it was!

I really wish someone would sort out a real blue or purple in a permanent dye.

Hair - part 1

I've decided to try stuff with my hair.

While I was away I purchased the 

Curl Secret VS Sassoon after reading reviews and watching YouTube.

With a normal iron it takes me an hour to do my hair. It's too frustrating because I have so much fine hair, and although if I practised I would get quicker I just can not be bothered.

This was about half an hour of fun, didn't get angry or bored and it was easy to do.

After it is tamed into curls it doesn't like like there is much hair at all!

If I hadn't already decided to recolour my hair tomorrow these photos would have convinced me!

On the fringe

So I did it. I grabbed my scissors and got stuck in.


As soon as I heard that satisfying snip of hair between scissors I knew I had done the right thing.

I had been admiring side fringes for a little while and thought I would give it a go.

But 4 hours later I was still touching my fringe trying to get it to sit right. I'm sure an expert would have told me that it takes a little while to perfect it but I was fed up.

So I've just snipped out my old faithful blunt fringe.

Seriously, why did I decide to grow out my fringe? Admittedly this fringe isn't as thick as my old one but it still feels and looks nice.
