Weaving

I lost out on an eBay purchase last night, a second hand heddle loom. So in consolation I got out my toy looms that I use in home Ec.

I warped up and then started weaving. It's so relaxing going backward and forwards.

Then I thought I would try putting in rya weave.  That was fun.

After that I locked the rya tassels in with some more weaving.

To finish off I took out a loop at a time from under the sticky tape, that I use to make sure the yarn doesn't come loose, and tied it.

I realised my starting warps ends were a little short so I tied them off and then used a fine crochet hook to hide the ends in the back.

Apart from that terrible finish at the bottom I'm pretty happy with my little tapestry.

Easter

Easter long weekend was meant to be  relaxing but both C and I ended up sick.  We did visit a birthday boy and I did finish my Easter egg tree.

We used to board with a Danish family and they had a lovely tree with hand painted eggs that I was in awe of. I decided that one day I would have an Easter egg tree too.

Mine isn't as traditional as their's but I like it none-the-less

It has a few eggs I bought in Sydney a few years ago, a rose plaque that I made when my parents visited, a prayer thing I got in Thailand plus my own hand painted and drawn on eggs.  Just for fun I also made bunting out of patty cake liners.

I can't wait until next year to add more.

Did you make any Easter crafts this Easter?

Cats and rabbits

You are not allowed to own rabbits in Queensland. I once owned a pair of long eared guinea pigs that look just like them - they were lovely pets.

One of my current pets likes to 'help' out when I craft. Yesterday I was threading beads to make a black and white polka dotted necklace when Chihiro wanted some of the action.

Today I wore my new Asos top - the one with bunnies on it!

I like the shirt but it has two issues.

The fabric pulls at the buttons and that's not because it's too tight. I hand sewed the gap that showed my bra but think I will need to sew it all up just to strengthen the fabric.

The other issue is the hem. The hem is so small that it doesn't prevent the overlooked edge from flipping outward and being seen - let alone the loose threads. So I will be reseeding the hem as well.

So glad I didn't pay full price.

Pants - Autograph - they need taking in
Top - Asos
Necklace - I made it

Sorry it all looks so wrinkled - I've been wearing it for almost 12 hours now.

Slow morning

Last night was terrible.

For some reason I just could not get to sleep, and then during the night I had the worst cramps I've had in a while (too much info?). Then I also had nightmares which I'm glad I can't remember because I have doosies. The nightmares,I think, stem from my withdrawal of meds. When I started them, I had terrible realistic dreams that I really believed had happened when I woke up. Once I even had to ring my mum just to make sure that Grandad was still alive.

So I'm in slow motion this morning. I did convince myself to put on a workout outfit and attempt my routine - it was half hearted and I didn't even do a second set.

I've now eaten two Poptarts and given my newest beads their last clear coat. I'm thinking about starting up a jewelry stall again,,, I'm not sure.

I'm still wearing workout gear.

Time for a shower I think - maybe that will pep me up.

10 Things About Me - Craftist not Artist

I love working with my hands. I sew, I crochet, I knit (not very often because crochet is my first love), I make stuff.

I wish I was more arsty then crafty though. What I wouldn't give to be able to say, 'Oh, I'm an artist.' But I can't. It just doesn't sit right.  Although I love teaching visual art classes.

Craft seems to have these terrible connotations of 'craft corner' from primary school or 'home eccy beccy' which is totally insulting being a HOME EC teacher and all. What's wrong with that?

Nothing, that's what I say!  So anyway,

'Hi, I'm Pammy and I'm a craftist.'

Random acts of craft

I woke up today with a sore throat and limpy limbs. I had big dreams for today's productivity too.

Instead I'm uploading photos of my holiday crafts.

• Use cross stitch patterns and melty beads and make pretty things.

• Wrap an empty and cleaned out can of soft drink with pretty paper. Use can to collect $2 coins - once filled the can will hold about $600. Trust me.

• Restring paper beads. I made these beads a few years ago but didn't like how I had strung them.

I have a terrible (I would actually say beneficial) love affair with patterned paper. I can't help but buy up pretty wrapping papers and hoard (keep safe) nice prints and old calendars. Making beads is a nice way to use it up.
